The Cast of Characters in Chapter One; Devotion

Both of Viktoria's parents had served the Carpathya Court their entire lives. It was only natural that she followed in their footsteps. Her entire life had been planned out before she had been born but the death of her parents cut off those plans prematurely. Feeling responsible, the members of the Carpathya Court took the orphaned infant under their wings, raised her as one of their own. When she came of age, Viktoria was determined to pay the Court back for all the things that had done for her. She offered her services to the Lord of the Court, Mircea. Gifted with the abilities of subjective Visions as well as acute Empathy and what the Vampires called the "Knowing Touch", she became a valued asset. But, there were few that still say Viktoria as nothing more than food and did not trust her presence among the Court.

The oldest living Vampire in New York City. Rumors among the High Circle place Mircea at, at least, four thousand years old. But his true age, he keeps only to himself. What is know, is that he had once been a powerful Romanian Prince. He had loved once, a long time ago. Elizabetta had been the type of woman that any man would have desired. Well-educated, classy, but she was also fragile and naieve to the world. After her suicide, Mircea had vowed to himself that he would never love again. And his vow had prove true until Viktoria Konstantine had stepped into the picture. Now, The Lord of the Court finds himself falling head-over-heels and rather rapidly despite any attempts to catch himself. But now he knows theres no turning back. Viktoria will be his, even if it kills him. Mircea's only Childe had married another Vampire of the Court. The two gave birth to twins, but their happy family wasn't to last very long and both of them died, leaving the young infants in Mircea's care. Anastasia and Sebastian were those infants and grew up to know Court life. When they came of age, it was their right to join the High Council in their parents place.

This silver-eyed Hispanic Vampire hails from Spain. He is the right hand man to Mircea and Second in Command to the High Circle of the Carpathya Court. Unlike many of the other High Circle members, Alejandro does not necessarily view Humans simply as "food". He sees them as living beings that have the potential to be loved just as Vampires do. There is not much else known about Alejandro, most of the time he remains as mysterious as Mircea.

Anastasia, like her brother was born in Romania. Her parents were human, and from what Mircea told her of them they were nice people. Both of them were wealthy, and passed on their funds to both Sebastian and Anastasia. Her mother died after giving birth to Anastasia so she never met her mother. Her and Sebastian were twins, and since her her parents were both turned vampires by Mircea, Anastasia was born one. Immediately she developed her talent at a young age. Her and brother both are extremely intelligent, and both surpassed their colleagues by a long shot, especially since they stayed the same age for a long time. Anastasia however, had her own special gift. She is very seductive, and mold men into doing whatever she wants, even women at most times. She can be very dangerous with her words, and can "paralyze" you without even touching you. All her friends growing up hated her, because she would steal their boyfriends the minute she met them. She was raised by Mircea until he took her and Sebastian to America. She now uses her talents for the family court in New York where they reside.

Born the Eldest twin in their noble Irish family, he was the heir to the estate in which they lived. But the raiding British would put an end nearly to the entire family. No one knows the brother's true names and refer to them only as Angel and Devil. It was rumored that Vesper was their creator, but if asked, the brothers deny any connections to the former eternal psychopath. They are an independent duo, but often aid the Carpathya Court in serious matters. Angel, being the complete opposite of his brother, tends to keep the peace in a night club that they frequent on a regular basis.

Damon was once known as a ruthless Scottish warrior who had fought alongside the Irish to bring and end to English rule. Rumored to be a distance cousin of the infamous William Wallace, he had nearly died along side the rebel. His Sire, long since dead not long after he had given Damon the Dark Gift, he traveled the world along, learning his gifts by himself and without guidance from anyone. He joined the St. Louis Court in hopes of using his warrior's skills. But when their Head of the Court was murdered, Damon came to the Carpathya Court. Mircea gave Damon the job of guarding Viktoria, but unknown to either of them, he has grown deep feelings for the very woman that both Mircea and Sebastian find so irresistable.

Devil; following his namesake, has a quick temper and is not afraid to show it. Known to strike first before thinking. However, despite his hair-trigger temperament, he is a ladies man and flaunts his desires quite visibly. He is not only the opposite of his brother in personality, but also in looks. He prefers the biker chic to business suits and heavy metal music to the classical bore that Angel tends to lean towards. Devil harbors a protectiveness over his older brother as is only common among the bond of twins. Many know that Devil would follow Angel into Hell and back.

Sebastian was born in Romania along with this sister Anastasia. He's his sister's twin, and without the manly features, blonde hair and deep voice he would resemble her completely. He too was raised by Mircea and taught to hone his special talent just like his sister did hers. His talent however was his speed. He was unnaturally fast, even for a vampire. At a young age, he surpassed vampires that have been around for thousands of years. Technically speaking, he was a vampire prodigy, and that was rare to find. Sebastian was always shy, and tended to keep to his own unless he was with his sister. He didn't have friends growing up other then his twin, and didn't develop somewhat of a personality till his later years. He is now in love for the first time with Viktoria, however these feelings are hidden from her, and Mircea. Sebastian is roughly 2000 years old now, and sits on the High Court with Mircea and his sister. Technically speaking, Sebastian would be the heir to Lord Of The Court.

Psychopathic beyond comprehension, Vesper is the sister of the fallen Head of Court from St. Louis. It is unknown yet if she actually murdered her own brother, but speculations against this Russian nut job are strong. It is said that she lost her mind when her Human lover died and she blamed Mircea and Sebastian for his death. Determined to get revenge, she seeks for a way to harm them both, to make them suffer for eternity and she may have just found her mouse in Viktoria..
